Accounting Supervisor

Wolfram, creator of Mathematica, Wolfram|Alpha and Wolfram Language, is seeking an experienced Accounting Supervisor to join its Accounting department. The Accounting Supervisor will be responsible for managing the general accounting staff and their processes, including financial accounting, accounts receivable and accounts payable.

Responsibilities

  • Completing month-end closing entries, overseeing the preparation of periodic financial statements and coordinating the annual financial audit
  • Ensuring that financial reports comply with generally accepted accounting principles and financial reporting standards
  • Monitoring changes in GAAP and federal/state regulations that impact accounting processes and procedures
  • Maintaining a documented system of accounting policies and procedures and identifying, recommending and implementing updates as needed
  • Overseeing the system of internal controls over accounting functions to minimize risk
  • Reviewing and approving banking activities including ACH/wire payments from accounts payable, cash receipts and bank reconciliations
  • Monitoring 401(k) plan activities, including biweekly funding, forfeiture account monitoring, uncashed checks, loan changes and coordination of the 401(k) audit and related compliance activities
  • Completing necessary maintenance of finance recordkeeping systems
  • Recruiting and hiring accounting staff and conducting performance evaluations
  • Implementing training for new hires and identifying training opportunities for current staff
  • Handling discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy
  • Serving as a helpful resource to employees on general accounting matters
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration or finance
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, including 3+ years of managerial experience
  • Certified Public Accountant designation is desirable but not required
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High degree of initiative and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
  • Mastery of accounting and tax preparation software
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent time management, organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong numerical aptitude, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
