Job Title: Business Rates Officer
Becoming a Business Rates Visiting Officer with Capita Local Government
Salary: £25,750 per annum
Location: London (Lambeth and Barnet)
Working hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm
The Revenues Inspectorate team is responsible for visits and inspections to various Local authority contracts and as our business has grown, there is a need to expand our team of inspectors who are currently based in London. We are looking to recruit into a permanent post.
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a confident attitude to work within a busy and friendly environment with the existing inspector. The successful candidate will be provided with full training and guidance and will be required to undertake Business Rates visits within the London Borough of Lambeth and when required, provide support to their team members which may require inspections within other London boroughs.
What you’ll be doing:
- Visits to commercial premises
- Arranging appointments with Landlords, agents, business owners, etc. to gain access to premises
- Liaising with other agencies eg; The Valuation office Agency and other departments within the Council
- Regular inspections of properties or sites that have been given planning permission to carry out works that will affect the Rating List.
- To provide reports to the Valuation office Agency that assist towards keeping Business Rates database up to date
- To establish liability, entitlement, to exemptions, discounts and reliefs

- Enthusiastic, Friendly and confiden
- Able to use own initiative and self motivated
- Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
Essential Experience/Skills
- Good communication skills
- Good presentation skills
- In possession of a full driving License.
- Able to work with a high level of accuracy and thoroughness
- Computer literate
- GCSE Maths – Grade C or above
- GCSE English – Grade C or above
Desirable Experience/Skills
- Working knowledge of Business Rates
- Knowledge of Academy revenues Application
- Experience of undertaking unaccompanied visits to Businesses in accordance with laid down procedures and safety guidelines
