About this job
Digital Marketer & Sales Intern at a Startup in Lagos
We are an early-stage fintech startup building payment orchestration software for African businesses. Our platform connects a business to multiple payment providers, such as Paystack, Flutterwave, Monnify and Payaza, through one API and one dashboard, then routes each transaction to the provider most likely to succeed, creating one checkout experience for customers.
The result for our merchants is fewer failed payments, less lost revenue and simpler reconciliation, without changing their existing payment providers. Our product is live and already used by early merchants in fintech, e-commerce, travel and SaaS.
What we offer today:
· Smart payment routing and no-code payment workflows
· An embeddable checkout and plugins for platforms like WooCommerce
· Subscription billing (prepaid and pay-as-you-go)
· Developer-friendly APIs, webhooks and documentation
We are a small team that builds in public and moves fast. You will work directly with the founders.
The role
We are hiring a Digital Marketer & Sales Intern to grow our audience on social media and book product demos with businesses that need what we offer. You will focus on two things, content and outreach, working closely with the founders.
This is a hands-on role with real ownership. We want someone who brings ideas, tests them quickly, and uses the results to decide what to do next. What you try this month can shape how we market and sell next quarter.
What you'll do
Your time will go into two core jobs: content that grows our audience, and outreach that fills the founders' demo calendar.
1. Content (about 8 hours a week)
· Publish two to three posts a week on LinkedIn, X and Instagram that explain our product and the payment problems it solves, in plain language.
· Turn product updates, founder insights and customer feedback into carousels, short videos and simple explainers.
· Engage with our community: reply to comments, join relevant conversations and grow our following.
2. Prospecting and outreach (about 8 hours a week)
· Research target businesses (fintechs, online stores, travel platforms, SaaS and subscription companies) and build qualified lead lists.
· Reach out by email, LinkedIn and WhatsApp, follow up, and book discovery calls and demos for the founders.
· Pass on what you hear from prospects (objections, questions, needs) so we can sharpen the pitch.
3. Tracking and check-ins (about 4 hours a week)
· Keep our CRM up to date and track followers, engagement, leads and demos booked.
· Share a short weekly update and join team check-ins.
You may occasionally help with extras, such as a webinar, a Lagos event or a customer case study. You are also welcome to propose new channels or tactics to test.
What success looks like in 90 days
By the end of your first 90 days, we expect you to have:
· Grown the following on our social media pages, measured against the follower count when you start.
· Booked demos with at least three prospective clients.
We will review these together at the 90-day mark and use them in deciding whether to extend your contract.
Who you are
You love selling, you are curious about fintech, and you would rather test a new idea than repeat what everyone else does.
· You are a recent graduate or currently serving in the NYSC.
· You are based in Lagos.
· You are passionate about marketing and selling, especially startup SaaS products in fintech. You enjoy talking to customers and are not put off by a "no".
· You are tech-savvy and comfortable with social media tools, Canva or similar, Google Workspace and spreadsheets, and you pick up new tools (CRM, email and AI tools) quickly.
· You challenge the norm. You question "how it's always done", bring your own ideas, and use data to learn what works.
· You write and speak clearly and persuasively in English.
· You are self-driven and organised, and can manage your own 20 hours a week remotely without close supervision.
· You are willing to learn how our product works in depth. A technical background is not required.
Nice to have
None of these are required, but they will help your application stand out.
· A certification in digital marketing, sales, social media or analytics (for example Google, HubSpot or Meta courses).
· Experience from an internship, SIWES placement, campus ambassador role or side business where you sold or grew something.
· Hands-on experience with paid social ads, email marketing tools or a CRM.
· Basic graphic design or short-form video editing skills.
· An existing network in Lagos tech, startup or SME communities.
