Job Title: Grant Writer
Job Overview
As a Grant Writer, you will play a crucial role in securing funding for the African Music Library by developing compelling grant proposals and grant applications. Your primary responsibilities will include researching funding opportunities, collaborating with program managers and executives, and writing clear and persuasive proposals to potential donors and grant-making organizations. The successful candidate will have excellent research, writing, and communication skills, a deep understanding of African music and the culture, and the ability to effectively convey the organization’s mission and impact.
Key Responsibilities
Grant Research:
- Identify and research potential funding opportunities from government agencies, foundations, and other grant-making organizations.
- Stay informed about current trends and changes in the grant landscape to identify new funding sources.
Proposal Development:
- Collaborate with program managers and executives to gather information about programs, projects, and organizational goals.
- Write and develop clear, concise, and compelling grant proposals and grant applications.
- Customize proposals to align with the specific requirements and priorities of different funding sources.
Budget Preparation:
- Work closely with the finance team to develop accurate and realistic budgets for grant proposals.
- Ensure that budgets align with the programmatic goals outlined in the proposals.
Grant Submission:
- Manage the submission process, ensuring that all required documents are prepared and submitted on time.
- Maintain a calendar of grant deadlines and submission requirements.
Relationship Building:
- Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with current and potential funding partners.
- Attend relevant networking events, conferences, and meetings to build connections within the philanthropic community.
Grant Reporting:
- Collaborate with program managers to collect and compile data for grant reporting.
- Ensure that all reporting requirements are met and submitted within specified deadlines.
Compliance:
- Stay informed about grant regulations, guidelines, and compliance requirements.
- Ensure that all grant activities adhere to legal and ethical standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., English, Communications, Nonprofit Management).
- Proven experience as a Grant Writer, preferably in the African music and culture
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Strong research skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity with budgeting and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in using grant management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certification in grant writing.
- Knowledge of Grant Management Software
