2025 University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship (UMGF)  Overview

The University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship (UMGF) is awarded annually to full-time master’s and PhD students who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement and intellectual ability. The fellowship aims to recognize and support academic excellence.

2025 University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship (UMGF) Eligibility

• Academic Standing: Minimum admission GPA of 3.0 (departments may require higher).
• Citizenship: Open to all students, regardless of nationality.
• Fields of Study: Available for all graduate programs eligible for Tri-Agency funding.
• Other Requirements:
  • Must be admitted to a master’s or PhD program at the University of Manitoba.
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 and no grade lower than C+.
  • Show strong research potential and academic excellence.
  • Must be registered full-time and progressing satisfactorily in their program.
  • Must not have held UMGF funding for more than 4 years in total.
  • Cannot receive another award of equal or greater value.

2025 University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship (UMGF) Benefits

• Master’s students: $20,000 per year for 12 or 24 months (up to $40,000 total).
• PhD students: $25,000 per year for 12, 24, 36, or 48 months (up to $100,000 total).

Period of Support

• Master’s: Eligible for up to 24 months of funding, depending on time spent in the program.
• PhD: Eligible for up to 48 months, based on time spent in the program.

Application Process

• Students must be nominated by their department to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
• Each department has its own application process and deadlines—students should contact their department for details.
• Selected students will be recommended to the Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS), which will review applications and issue official award letters via email.
