Full Stack Software Engineer
The Opportunity
At Mozilla, we believe that the web should be responsive, pages should load quickly, and resources should be used thoughtfully. The performance program is dedicated to building performance for every experience, growing a culture of performance, and to bring a balance between what is good for the users of the web and what is good for the builders of the web.
Our team is geographically-distributed, and working in the open is the norm. We contribute to the code driving the Firefox browser on a number of platforms – Windows, Android, Linux, and macOS. Our focus is on finding and fixing things that slow down the browser as well as helping other teams write fast and reliable code to make Firefox excellent for users.
As a full stack software engineer in performance, you will build tools to assist Firefox engineers with ensuring our products only ever get faster for our millions of users. Your initial focus will be on delivering applications for displaying performance data in a digestible and intuitive way. This will lower the barrier for making performance an every day concern for our engineers. You will also support our team of performance sheriffs working to prevent shipping regressions by simplifying these processes and increasing the quality of our regression detection.
What you’ll doÂ
- Build tools that clearly show if the performance of our products has regressed.
- Develop modern web interfaces and visualizations.
- Help to maintain our existing performance tools.
- Seek feedback from, collaborate with, and provide updates to our users.
- Uphold quality standards by performing code reviews, fixing bugs, creating tests, and profiling code.
What you’ll bringÂ
- Strong JavaScript and Python skills. In addition, knowledge of React, Redux, TypeScript and Django/Flask is a nice to have.
- Experience working as a full stack engineer, comfortable with moving between working on the front and back end as needed.
- Knowledge of distributing source code management tools such as Git or Mercurial.
- Experience building intuitive and accessible user experiences, with specific experience in visualizing time series data is a plus.
- Familiarity with relational databases such as MySQL.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to work optimally in a remote environment.
