CLARITY-Africa PhD Scholarship 2025 Overview

The CLARITY-Africa PhD Scholarship is offered by a consortium coordinated by Imperial College London in partnership with the University of Ghana (UG), the Africa Institute for Mathematical Sciences Research & Innovation Centre (AIMS RIC), and other universities. The program aims to produce research on climate change, environmental risks, and vulnerable communities in four African cities: Accra and Tamale (Ghana), and Kigali and Musanze (Rwanda).

CLARITY-Africa PhD Scholarship 2025 Eligibility

• Open to applicants from any African country.

• UG PhD program accepts only Ghanaian nationals, while AIMS RIC accepts applicants from all African countries.

• Must hold a Master’s degree in a relevant field (climate science, demography, economics, geography, environmental science, public health, environmental health, mathematical and physical sciences, etc.).

• Must be open to conducting research on climate-related risks (heat, flooding, and drought) in the designated African cities.

• Strong analytical, statistical, and communication skills are preferred.

• Research potential should be demonstrated through academic performance and relevant experience.

• Year 1 PhD students at the University of Ghana are also eligible.

The scholarship covers:

• Tuition fees

• Research costs

• Stipend

• Travel expenses

• Other related costs

CLARITY-Africa PhD Scholarship 2025 Program Components

• PhD students will be based at either the University of Ghana (4-year program) or AIMS RIC (3-year program).

• Opportunity to spend time in partner institutions.

• Supervision by CLARITY consortium faculty and researchers.

• UG applicants must complete:

  • 1 year of coursework

  • Experiential learning through institutional attachments in the second year

  • Formal admission into the UG Graduate School

CLARITY-Africa PhD Scholarship 2025 Application Requirements

Applicants must submit:

1. Statement of purpose (max. 2,000 words) detailing research interests and the scholarship’s impact on their career.

2. Two-page research proposal.

3. Academic CV (including publications, research experience, and achievements).

4. Copies of graduate transcripts.

5. Copies of graduate certificates.

6. Contact details of two academic referees.
