The Wellington Doctoral Scholarship supports high-achieving domestic and international students pursuing a PhD across all academic disciplines at Victoria University of Wellington. Approximately 110 scholarships are awarded each year.

Architecture, Business, Design, Education, Engineering, Health, Humanities, Social Sciences, Law, Music, Science, Technology.
Value of Scholarship
. NZD $30,500 per year stipend
. Full tuition fee waiver (domestic rate)
. Tenure: Up to 3 years
Fully Funded Wellington Doctoral Scholarship in New Zealand 2025: Eligibility Criteria
. Open to domestic and international students
. Must have First-Class Honours or equivalent academic excellence
. Must be applying to, or already enrolled in, a full-time PhD program
. Applications must include all academic records (especially for those from outside VUW)
. Those already enrolled for more than six months may still apply, but the scholarship duration may be reduced

. Academic merit and excellent references
. Research potential, including publications and awards
. Alignment with the university’s research strengths
. Potential collaboration or strategic research contribution
Additional Notes
. Can be held with other scholarships (co-tenure rules apply)
. Recipients must remain enrolled full-time and are expected to submit progress reports every 6 months
. Up to 600 hours of paid work per year allowed with permission
. Suspension allowed for valid reasons (up to 12 months in total)
