Sports Modeler at Underdog, Remote (United States)
An opportunity to take your love of sports to another level. Model, simulate, predict, and perfect the outcomes of sports, teams, and the players that are involved. This is a great opportunity for a data scientist who enjoys seeing their product become customer-facing quickly and efficiently.
About the role
- Working with an international team of sports modelers to build a range of models to assist with our unique Underdog business.
- You will build predictive and simulation models to underpin the pricing of a range of our products across major US sports
- Analyzing defining and performing on the performance of our models to identify opportunities of improvement.
- Collaborating with engineering and trading teams on the design, implementation and refinement of models.
Who you are
- 2+ years of full time experience in a fast-paced financial or similar setting
- Strong programming skills in Python and R, with experience using libraries such as Pandas, scikit-learn, and TensorFlow
- Solid understanding of statistical methods and their application in data analysis
- Ability to write complex SQL queries to extract and manipulate data from databases
- Familiarity with big data tools like Spark and Kafka
- Understanding of ETL processes and data pipeline design
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field
Even better if you have
- Have experience working as a data scientist in the sports or finance industries.
Our target starting base salary range for this position is between $135,000 and $150,000, plus target equity. The starting base salary will depend on a number of factors including the candidate’s skills and experience, among other things.
