Product Designer at Instacart, Remote (Canada)

In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, data scientists, user researchers, and content designers to solve customer problems and elevate the craft and quality of Instacart’s most visible, high-impact experiences—the ones that define how millions of people shop for groceries every week. You’ll move fluidly from concept to craft—framing problems, exploring multiple approaches, and shipping thoughtfully designed solutions at scale.

Our Instacart Design Team is an innovative and collaborative group of Product Designers, Content Designers, Researchers, and Program Managers. United by a passion for design excellence, we are committed to making grocery shopping as seamless and effortless as possible. We distinguish ourselves by delivering extraordinary results in ordinary tasks, always driven by curiosity, empathy, and creativity in our pursuit of excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end design for Instacart’s most critical customer experiences—the core shopping flows that millions rely on daily—from discovery and definition through polished visuals, specs, and launch.
  • Elevate visual and interaction quality across key flows (e.g., browse, search, cart, checkout) by refining patterns, simplifying complexity, and raising the bar on craft.
  • Partner with PM, Eng, DS, Research, and Content to define problems, explore solutions, run experiments, and iterate quickly based on qualitative and quantitative insights.
  • Create high-fidelity designs, interactive prototypes, and production-ready specs in Figma; contribute to and extend component-based design systems across platforms.
  • Create and present compelling ideas that showcase improvements to top customer problems with innovative solutions, blending data-driven insights with impactful storytelling to engage and inspire our customers.
  • Collaborate with external retail partners and internal enterprise teams to design co-branded or partner-integrated experiences that meet shared goals and constraints.
  • Advocate for customer needs while balancing business objectives, technical feasibility, and speed—thriving in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • You have 3+ years of experience in digital product design, preferably in consumer products or at an agency
  • Comfortable collaborating closely with product and engineering partners to define scope, align on trade-offs, and ship high-quality, user-centered design solutions
  • You’ve thrived in iterative environments using experimentation, A/B testing, and data-driven decision-making—and know how to balance moving quickly with maintaining design quality
  • Exceptional communication skills, excelling in cross-functional collaboration to address and solve complex challenges
  • Proficient in maintaining comprehensive design documentation, ensuring smooth collaboration in both synchronous and asynchronous remote work environments
  • Strong portfolio showcasing your problem solving skills, a high level of craft and quality exemplifying a high caliber of design; you MUST provide a link to your portfolio (and password if applicable) to be considered for this role

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience collaborating with external partners and/or working within an agency or enterprise partner ecosystem.
  • Background in e-commerce, marketplaces, or complex, multi-stakeholder systems (e.g., checkout, promotions, catalog, or fulfillment flows).
  • Experience working with motion design and animation, especially for prototypes for presentations or user research
