What the Scholarship Covers

The scholarship is tenable only at the University of Toronto for first-entry undergraduate programmes. If you are awarded the scholarship, it is restricted to your top choice of programme at the time scholarship decisions are made.

The Pearson Programme Office, housed within the Centre for International Experience, also offers enrichment and support programmes specifically for Pearson Scholars throughout their time at U of T — meaning the scholarship is not just financial but comes with a structured support community.

Who Can Apply: Eligibility

The eligibility criteria are specific. Read every point carefully.

International student: You must be a non-Canadian requiring a study permit. Canadian citizens and permanent residents are not eligible.

Secondary school: You must be enrolled in your final year of senior secondary school in 2026/2027, or have graduated no earlier than June 2026.

University start date: You must be beginning your undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto in September 2027.

Not currently in post-secondary study: Students who are already attending post-secondary (university or college) studies, anywhere in the world, are not eligible. Students starting post-secondary studies in January 2027 anywhere are also not eligible. This scholarship is exclusively for students transitioning directly from secondary school to U of T undergraduate studies in September 2027.

The Nomination Requirement: The Most Important Step

This is where many students get confused. You cannot apply for the Pearson Scholarship directly. Your school must nominate you first.

Each school is limited to nominating one student per year. This means the competition at the school level is real — your school’s counsellor or principal must select you as their nominee.

If your school has previously participated in the programme, it will receive access to the nomination form from 6 July 2026. The deadline for schools to nominate is 9 October 2026.

If your school has not previously participated: Schools can apply to join the programme — the deadline for new schools to register is also 9 October 2026 at noon EST.

Your action: Approach your school’s guidance counsellor, principal, or head of school now and ask whether your school participates in the Pearson Scholarship nomination programme. Do not wait until September — the school-level process requires time.

You must apply for admission to at least one undergraduate programme at U of T and must have your scholarship application and all required documentation completed by 6 November 2026.

Fraud Warning: Read This Before You Seek Help

The University of Toronto has explicitly flagged fraudulent emails offering to assist students with Pearson Scholarship applications. Be warned:

• The Pearson Scholarship Programme does not interact with agencies or educational “agents” to recruit students or offer scholarships
• Any agent claiming to offer Pearson Scholarship assistance — particularly for a fee — is a scam
• Pearson Scholarship recipients can only be nominated by their current secondary school through U of T’s online process
• The scholarship is available only to undergraduate degree applicants
