The UCLouvain PhD Scholarship in Political Science 2026 offers an exciting opportunity for researchers to join an international doctoral project exploring how political representation can become more inclusive.

Hosted by UCLouvain in collaboration with Vrije Universiteit Brussel, this fully funded PhD position is part of the WEAVE project – Co-Designing Inclusive Political Representation, supported by European research funding.

The research focuses on the experiences of people facing socio-economic challenges in Brussels and explores new ways citizens can participate in shaping democratic systems. The successful candidate will conduct qualitative research, work with community organizations, and contribute to discussions about the future of democracy.

This opportunity is open to talented graduates worldwide, including applicants from Africa, Nigeria, and other regions who want to build an international academic career in political science and social research.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

• Hold a Master’s degree in Political Science or a related social science field (final-year Master’s students may also apply).
• Have a strong interest in:
  • Political representation and democracy.
  • Qualitative research methods.
  • Participatory and community-based research.
• Be willing to conduct extensive fieldwork with communities in Brussels.
• Have excellent:
  • French oral communication skills.
  • English writing and speaking skills.
• Knowledge of Dutch is an advantage but not mandatory.
• Demonstrate curiosity, independence, teamwork skills, and commitment to impactful research.

Scholarship Benefits

The selected candidate will receive:

• A fully funded 4-year doctoral scholarship (48 months).
• A fixed-term full-time research position from 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2030.
