JHC Consulting
Data Analyst – Intern at JHC Consulting, Remote
JHC Consulting is bringing on a Data Analyst – Intern to assist with a mandate for a regional financial technology firm. Our practice provides external challenge to the internal cases presented by boards and leadership teams. This role involves scrutinizing the data underlying a company strategy and converting that analysis into clear, written arguments. As a fully remote firm, we rely on individual discipline to maintain the high standard of our counsel.
The Role
In this position, your primary focus is the extraction and interpretation of quantitative information to support our written memoranda. You will not be building dashboards or creating slides. Instead, you will spend your time reading through internal reports and datasets to identify the assumptions that drive a firm decisions. The day to day involves reviewing financial and operational data, checking for consistency across different sources, and drafting sections of memoranda that explain your findings. You will support our principals by ensuring that every claim we make is rooted in a verifiable fact or a clearly stated assumption. This is a full time internship that requires a commitment to the precision of your work.
What You Bring
We are looking for an individual with a strong foundation in data analysis and a deep respect for the written word. This is an internship, so we do not expect years of professional experience, but we do require intellectual maturity and curiosity. You should be comfortable using spreadsheets and basic statistical methods to organize data. More importantly, you must be able to write about what you find. We value students or recent graduates who can look at a complex set of numbers and explain the meaning in plain English. A background in economics, finance, mathematics, or a related field is helpful, but the ability to think clearly on paper is the most critical requirement for anyone at this firm.
How We Work
At JHC Consulting, the document is the work. We do not participate in standard corporate ceremonies or long meetings. Every piece of analysis results in a signed memorandum. This means the person who does the reading and the analysis is the person who writes the text. Even as an intern, you will be expected to take ownership of your specific research tasks. We believe that writing is the most effective way to produce sharp thinking. If you cannot explain an analytical point in a single sentence, we believe you do not yet understand it. Our process involves successive revisions to ensure every word serves the argument.
Working at JHC Consulting
This role is entirely remote, allowing you the autonomy to manage your own schedule and environment. We operate with a high degree of trust and expect a corresponding level of accountability. While the work is intellectually demanding, we avoid the frantic pace common in traditional consulting firms. We accept a limited number of mandates each quarter to ensure we can focus deeply on each one. This is a paid position, and the compensation is competitive for the internship market. You will have the opportunity to see how high level advisory work is conducted and how data is used to inform board level decisions.
Accountability is central to our practice. When we provide counsel, we put our names at the foot of every page. This creates a lasting record that boards can refer to for years to come. We look for individuals who take pride in the accuracy of their work and who have the courage to name uncomfortable truths when the data suggests them. By joining us for this internship, you will learn to treat analysis not just as a technical task, but as a serious intellectual responsibility.
