A.S. Hornby Educational Trust Scholarship 2026: Overview
The A.S. Hornby Educational Trust provides fully funded Master’s scholarships to strengthen English language teaching capacity in low- and middle-income countries. The award supports up to 10 experienced TESOL professionals to study the MEd TESOL at the University of Exeter (September 2026 entry).
A.S. Hornby Educational Trust Scholarship 2026: Eligibility
You must meet all the following criteria:

Be a resident of, and currently working in, a country classified as:

Least Developed

Low Income
-
Lower Middle Income
-
Upper Middle Income
(According to the OECD DAC list)

Have a minimum 3 years of full-time TESOL teaching or related professional experience after your first degree.

Hold an undergraduate degree equivalent to a UK Upper Second Class (2:1) or higher.

Must not hold:
-
A doctoral degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, English, or related fields.

A Master’s degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, English, or related fields from a UK university.

Scholarship is only for the MEd TESOL programme — not for PGCert or PGDip.

Application Process

Submit the Hornby Scholarship Application Form
(No need to apply to Exeter first.) -
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted and instructed to:

Apply formally for admission to the MEd TESOL programme at the University of Exeter.

Final scholarship decisions will be made after the selection panel reviews interview performance and university admission approval.
