Short Summary

The Africa Oxford Health Innovation Programme (AfOx-HIP) 2026 supports high-impact African health innovations with strong potential to transform healthcare delivery across the continent. The programme is open to innovators working on technologies for disease prevention, diagnosis, management, and treatment, including diagnostics, medical devices, therapeutics, and vaccines. AfOx-HIP prioritises solutions addressing non-communicable diseases, endemic and zoonotic diseases, and diagnostics tailored to African contexts. Student projects and well-established organisations are not eligible.

How to Apply for the AfOx Health Innovation Programme 2026

Step 1: Check Eligibility (Very Important)

Before applying, confirm that you meet all three eligibility levels:

  1. Applicant eligibility – you are an eligible innovator (not a student project owner)

  2. Solution eligibility – your innovation fits AfOx-HIP health focus areas

  3. Venture eligibility – your venture is early-stage and not a well-established company, NGO, consultancy, or consortium

Master’s dissertations, capstone projects, and student projects are not accepted.

Step 2: Confirm Your Solution Fits AfOx-HIP Priorities

Your innovation should aim to:

  • Reduce premature deaths from non-communicable diseases in Africa

  • Optimise diagnostic or prognostic tests for African settings

  • Develop novel diagnostics for endemic diseases

  • Prevent, diagnose, or treat zoonotic diseases

  • Deliver a transformative health impact in Africa

Step 3: Read the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • Carefully review the AfOx-HIP FAQ document

  • The FAQ helps you assess:

    • Programme suitability

    • Application expectations

    • Selection criteria

  • The application form link is inside the FAQ

Skipping the FAQ is one of the biggest reasons applications fail.

Step 4: Access the Application Form

  • Locate the application form link within the FAQ document

  • Prepare the required details about:

    • Your innovation

    • The health problem being addressed

    • Impact in African contexts

    • Stage of development and scalability

Step 5: Submit Your Application

  • Complete the application form fully

  • Ensure all responses clearly show impact, innovation, and feasibility

  • Submit before the stated deadline (check FAQ for exact dates)

Additional Notes

  • AfOx-HIP is open to all disciplines, not just life sciences or engineering

  • Innovations can be technology-based or interdisciplinary

  • If AfOx-HIP is not a fit, explore other opportunities on the AfOx Innovation Platform
