Overview

The Al Jazeera Media Institute (AJMI) Fellowship Program is a unique opportunity for journalists and researchers from around the world — especially from the Global South — to engage in media research and gain hands-on experience within the Al Jazeera Media Network (AJMN). This 3-month fellowship blends academic inquiry with real-world newsroom exposure, fostering innovation and excellence in modern journalism.

Objectives

• Strengthen journalists’ ability to adapt to modern technologies.

• Provide a chance to work directly with Al Jazeera editors, journalists, and researchers.

• Enrich global journalistic content through practical learning and collaboration.

Fellowship Details

• Duration: 3 months

• Structure:

  • Phase 1 (Remote): Fellows submit a research plan and introduction.

  • Phase 2 (In-person at AJMN Headquarters): Fellows complete and submit a full research paper.

• Research Output: A 7,000-word research paper on a chosen topic in journalism or media.
