2025 Documentary Film Fellowship: Overview
Applications are now open for the 2025 Documentary Film Fellowship, organized by StoryMi Academy in partnership with the French Embassy in Nigeria. This 4-month fully-funded program is designed to support passionate Nigerian documentary filmmakers in producing powerful, original stories with expert mentorship and production funding. The fellowship provides an opportunity to create a 15–20 minute documentary, with potential global exposure through international film festivals.
Program Duration: August – November 2025
Location: Lagos (In-person sessions) & Virtual (Mentorship and check-ins)
2025 Documentary Film Fellowship: Eligibility
Applicants must:

Be professional filmmakers based in Nigeria

Have experience in filming, editing, or producing

Be committed to non-fiction storytelling (no fiction or reenactments)

Be available full-time during the program (August – November 2025)

Have a strong passion for urgent, local stories related to identity, environment, history, culture, or social issues
Not Eligible:

Beginners, film students, or fiction filmmakers

Those planning dramatizations or reenactments
