CAM Doctoral Training Partnership (CAM-DTP) ESRC-Funded PhD Studentships 2026: Overview

The CAM Doctoral Training Partnership (CAM-DTP) is an ESRC-funded consortium between Anglia Ruskin University, the University of Bedfordshire, and the University of Cambridge. Starting in October 2026, CAM-DTP is offering fully funded PhD studentships for outstanding social science researchers.

CAM-DTP fosters an interdisciplinary training environment focused on tackling pressing societal challenges. The program is committed to diversity and strongly encourages applications from candidates from low socio-economic or disadvantaged backgrounds.

Eligibility

  • Open to UK/Home students (tuition fully covered).

  • International students may apply but must secure additional scholarships to cover fee differences and immigration costs.

  • Applicants can apply full-time (3.5–4.5 years) or part-time (minimum 50%).

  • Candidates must apply through one of the partner universities and indicate ESRC funding interest.

Benefits

Each CAM-DTP studentship provides:

  • Full tuition fees (UKRI Home student rate).

  • Annual tax-free stipend: £20,780 (2025–26, full-time).

  • Research and training support grant.

  • A personalised skills development programme covering research, communication, employability, and professional skills.

  • A 3-month Innovation Fellowship placement with academic or non-academic partners.

Studentship Routes

🔹 Route 1: Supervisor-Led Topics

  • Apply to one of 40+ advertised PhD topics across five ESRC research priority areas:

    • Behaviour

    • Digital society

    • Environment

    • Health & social care

    • Security & risk

  • Topics include: AI & free will, adolescent conspiratorial thinking, grassland management in urban spaces, UPF overconsumption, and more.

  • Contact the supervisory team before applying to refine your project proposal.

🔹 Route 2: Student-Led Proposals

  • Apply for a PhD at one of the partner universities.

  • Indicate your interest in ESRC funding.

  • Departments may nominate strong applicants for CAM-DTP studentships.

Note: There is no direct application to CAM-DTP — you must apply via your chosen university.

Application Process

  1. Choose your preferred route (Supervisor-led or Student-led).

  2. Apply for PhD admission at the relevant partner university.

  3. Indicate your interest in ESRC funding (CAM-DTP).

  4. Departments nominate candidates; CAM-DTP awards at least 32 studentships per year.
