The Chevening Scholarship, funded by the UK government, offers outstanding emerging leaders from around the world the opportunity to pursue a fully funded master’s degree in the United Kingdom. The program aims to develop individuals with the vision, leadership skills, and professional expertise to address global challenges and drive positive change in their home countries.

Chevening Scholarship 2025/2026 – Fully Funded UK Master’s for Global Future Leaders: Eligibility

To be eligible for the Chevening Scholarship, you must:

  • Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory.

  • Commit to returning to your home country for at least two years after your scholarship ends.

  • Have at least 2,800 hours of work experience after graduating from your undergraduate degree (equivalent to two years of full-time work).

  • Hold an undergraduate degree that qualifies you for a UK master’s programme.

  • Apply to three eligible UK university courses and receive an unconditional offer from at least one by the specified deadline.

Work Experience Notes (Updated 2025):

  • Only post-graduation work experience counts toward the 2,800-hour requirement.

  • Work experience can include:

    • Full-time employment

    • Part-time employment

    • Voluntary work

    • Paid or unpaid internships

  • If you graduated after October 2023, you are not eligible, as you cannot meet the minimum hours before the application deadline.

Application Requirements

  • Online Chevening application form.

  • Valid passport or national ID.

  • Academic transcripts and an undergraduate certificate.

  • Proof of work experience (minimum 2,800 hours).

  • Conditional or unconditional offers from at least one eligible UK course.

  • References from two individuals who know you professionally or academically.

  • Responses to updated Chevening essay questions (max 300 words each) focusing on leadership, networking, study in the UK, and career plans in global priority areas.

  • Demonstrated leadership potential and ability to influence change.

  • Strong academic background.

  • Clear connection between your chosen course(s) and global priority areas, such as:

    • Promoting growth and prosperity

    • Building climate resilience

    • Strengthening security and stability

    • Supporting inclusive and effective societies

  • Commitment to returning to your home country and contributing to its development.

Application Process

  1. Create an account on the official Chevening Scholarship portal.

  2. Complete the online application form with personal, academic, and professional details.

  3. Upload all required documents, including work experience proof and references.

  4. Apply to three eligible UK master’s programs.

  5. Submit your Chevening application before the deadline.

  6. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview at the UK embassy or high commission in their country.

Who is Not Eligible

You cannot apply if you:

  • Hold British or dual British citizenship (exceptions apply for British Overseas Territories or BN(O) from Hong Kong).

  • Hold refugee status in a non-eligible country.

  • Are an employee, former employee, or relative of an employee of the UK government, British embassies/high commissions, British Council, or sponsoring UK universities (restrictions apply).

  • Have previously studied in the UK on a UK government-funded scholarship.
