The Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS) supports outstanding international students, teachers, and scholars to study in China. China University of Petroleum, Beijing (CUP), a top “211” and “Double First-Class” university, is one of the host institutions. CUP offers world-class engineering, energy, and technology programs and collaborates with 196 global universities and organisations.

Available Scholarship Categories

Bilateral Program (Type A – Apply through the Chinese Embassy in your country)

• Open to bachelor’s, master’s, PhD, general scholar, and senior scholar applicants.

• Covers all academic majors at CUP.

• Application Period: Early January – Early March (varies by country).

• Process involves applying through your country’s dispatching authority + CSC portal + CUP portal for pre-admission.

University Programs (Type B – Apply directly to CUP, Agency Number: 11414)

• Silk Road Scholarship

For students from Belt and Road countries

• Academic Level: Bachelor, Master, PhD

• Language Requirements:

  • Chinese-taught bachelor: HSK 3 minimum

  • Chinese-taught master/PhD: HSK 4 minimum

  • English-taught programs: IELTS 6.5 / TOEFL 80 or proof of English-medium study

• Deadline:

  • Undergraduate: 15 May

  • Postgraduate: 30 May

• Eligible Majors:

  • Undergraduate: Resource Exploration Engineering, Finance, Computer Science, Petroleum Engineering

  • Postgraduate: Petroleum & Natural Gas Engineering, Finance (CN only), Computer Science (CN only)

• High-Level Postgraduate Program

For master’s and PhD applicants

• Age Limits:

  • Master’s: under 35

  • PhD: under 40

• Language Requirements:

  • Chinese-taught: HSK 4–5

  • English-taught: IELTS 6.5 / TOEFL 80 or English-medium certificate

• Deadline: 1 March

• Eligible Majors: All postgraduate programs, with strong recommendations in:

  • Petroleum & Natural Gas Engineering

  • Geological Engineering

  • Chemical Engineering

  • Management Science & Engineering

Scholarship Benefits (Fully Funded)

• Full tuition waiver

• Free university accommodation or monthly allowance (700–1000 RMB)

• Monthly stipend:

  • Undergraduates: 2500 RMB

  • Master’s: 3000 RMB

  • PhD: 3500 RMB
