Cobham-Ultra UK Undergraduate Scholarship 2026 — £3,500 for Engineering, Maths & Physics Students at Northumbria University 

Overview

The Cobham-Ultra UK Scholarship supports UK/Home undergraduate students beginning eligible Engineering, Environment, Mathematics, and Physics programmes at Northumbria University in September 2026. Two students will receive £3,500 (first year only) to enhance their academic experience. The award is a cash scholarship, paid in instalments during the first year.

Eligibility

Applicants must be UK/Home students, including those from:

• Jersey, Guernsey, Channel Islands

• Isle of Man

• Ireland

You must also:

• Apply and enrol in one of the eligible full-time programmes at Northumbria (Newcastle campus)

• Choose Northumbria as your firm choice by 30 June 2026

• Meet all entry requirements

• Be self-funded (not employer-sponsored)

• Apply for Student Finance and give consent for data sharing

• Register with the appropriate Student Finance body (SFE, SFW, SFNI, or SAAS for Scotland)

Benefits

• £3,500 cash award (first year only)

• Payments scheduled:

  • 25% in November 2026

  • 25% in February 2027

  • 50% in May 2027

• Can be used to enhance academic or university experience

• Recognition linked to a reputable aerospace and defence industry leader (Cobham Group)

Programme Components / Scholarship Coverage

Covers:

• Cash support to improve academic resources, tools, living costs, or learning experience

• Engagement with Northumbria University and Cobham CSR initiatives

• Mandatory thank-you letter and progress updates to donor

Does not cover:

• Tuition fees

• Living costs beyond the cash award

• Subsequent years of study

Application Requirements

Applicants must complete an online written application, including:

• A 3000-character (approx. 500 words) statement answering:
  “How will this Award support your aspirations to succeed in Higher Education?”

• Verification through UCAS for:

  • Ethnicity (BAME status)

  • Disability/health/learning difference status

Selection Criteria

Applicants must meet at least one of the following widening-participation criteria:

• Live in a low Higher Education progression neighbourhood
  (Check POLAR4 or TUNDRA postcode data via the Postcode Checker)

• Identify as Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic (BAME)

• Have a declared physical/mental health condition, long-term illness, or learning difference on UCAS

Selection is competitive and based on:

• Strength and clarity of the written application

• Demonstrated need and academic aspiration

• Alignment with widening participation goals

2. Submit UCAS application and choose Northumbria as your firm choice

3. Apply through the Cobham-Ultra Scholarship online form

4. Complete the 500-word written statement

5. Ensure Student Finance registration and consent to share data

6. Await outcome notification after results day in August 2026
