Overview

The Erasmus Mundus META4.0 Master’s Programme is a highly competitive, fully funded European joint Master’s degree designed for students with strong backgrounds in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, or Mechatronics. The programme combines advanced engineering education with international mobility across top European universities.

  • Master’s Degree

Eligible Academic Background

Applicants must hold (or be completing) a Bachelor of Science or Engineering (180 ECTS) with a minimum ECTS grade of B, and at least 3 years of study in:

  • Mechanical Engineering

  • Materials Science & Engineering

  • Mechatronics (considered on a case-by-case basis)

Final-year Bachelor students may apply conditionally, but must graduate before 31 July of the call year.

Key Academic Requirement

  • Proof of at least 135 face-to-face hours in mathematics or related subjects, such as:

    • Statistics / Probability

    • Applied Mathematics

    • Optimization

    • Numerical Analysis

    • Differential Equations

    • Numerical Methods

    • Scientific Computing

English Language Requirements

Applicants must provide one valid English proficiency proof (not older than 2 years):

  • IELTS: 6.5 overall (min. 6.0 each section)

  • TOEFL:

    • 600 (paper) / 250 (computer) / 95 (internet-based)

  • Cambridge English (FCE): Grade A or B

  • CEF Level: B2

  • TOEIC: 800

English Test Waiver

Applicants who studied entirely in English in approved countries (including Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, India, UK, Canada, USA, Australia, and others listed) may apply without a test, but must submit an official university letter confirming English as the medium of instruction.

What the Scholarship Covers

For selected scholarship holders:

  • Full tuition fees

  • Monthly stipend

  • Travel allowance

  • Installation and subsistence costs
    (Exact benefits depend on scholarship category)

Application Timeline & Deadlines

  • Applications Open: 15 November – 15 February

  • Interviews (if required): March

  • Admission Results: By 24 March

  • Student Confirmation Deadline: 25 March – 1 April

Required Application Documents

All documents must be submitted in English via the online platform:

  • Europass CV

  • Passport photo & passport copy

  • Bachelor’s degree certificate(s) (or official letter if pending)

  • Academic transcripts & diploma supplement

  • English proficiency proof (or exemption letter)

  • Mathematics hours evidence (transcripts + explanation document)

  • Proof of residence (issued within last 3 months)

  • META4.0 Questionnaire (mandatory, bonus points possible)

  • One recommendation letter (academic or professional)

  • Motivation video (max. 3 minutes, MP4, ≤70MB)
    Written motivation letters are not accepted

Selection Process

Applications are assessed in four stages:

  1. Eligibility Check – formal criteria only

  2. Pre-Score Assessment – academic fit, grades, university ranking

  3. Shortlist Evaluation (Top 100 applicants):

    • Academic excellence & potential

    • CV quality & experience

    • Motivation video

    • Optional bonus points from META4.0 questionnaire

  4. Main & Reserve List

    • Scores normalized for fairness

    • Max 10% of students per nationality

    • Selected candidates may be invited for an English interview

Applicants not selected may appeal within 10 days, based on new evidence only.
