Friedrich Ebert Foundation: Scholarship for International Students 2025/2025 Overview

The Friedrich Ebert Foundation offers scholarships to highly talented international students who are committed to social democracy and demonstrate outstanding academic merit. The program supports students financially and non-materially, allowing them to focus on their studies and volunteer work.

Friedrich Ebert Foundation: Scholarship for International Students 2025/2025 Eligibility

Applicants must:

• Be from the Global South (Asia, Africa, Latin America), post-Soviet states, or Eastern and Southeastern European (EU) countries.

• Be enrolled at a state or state-recognized higher education institution in Germany.

• Be pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, Diploma, or State Examination degree.

• Have above-average academic performance with graded certificates of achievement.

• Have sufficient German language proficiency, even if courses are taught in English. Acceptable proof includes:

  • DSH Level 2 (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang)

  • TestDaF Level 4 (Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache)

  • Goethe Institute Certificate C1

  • Deutsche Sprachdiplom der Kultusministerkonferenz (Level II)

  • Telc C1 Hochschule

Note: Students or doctoral candidates from OECD countries are not eligible for funding.

Friedrich Ebert Foundation: Scholarship for International Students 2025/2025 Scholarship Benefits

• Monthly stipend: €934

• Health insurance coverage

• Additional child allowance: €160 per month (for scholars with children)

• No repayment required

Number of Scholarships

• Up to 40 scholarships are awarded per year

Duration

• The maximum funding period follows BAföG regulations (German financial aid guidelines).
