Fully Funded 2026 University of Pretoria Commonwealth Scholarship for Doctoral Studies: Overview

The University of Pretoria (UP) is offering the 2026 Commonwealth Scholarship for Doctoral Studies to outstanding candidates from Commonwealth countries. This scholarship provides full funding for PhD programs in various faculties at UP, excluding South African nationals. The program supports high-achieving students who have completed their Master’s degree and wish to pursue advanced research at one of Africa’s leading universities.

Scholarship Categories

Doctoral studies in the following faculties:

  • Faculty of Law

  • Faculty of Humanities

  • Faculty of Education

  • Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment, and IT

  • Faculty of Health Sciences

  • Faculty of Veterinary Science

  • Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences

  • Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences

  • Faculty of Theology and Religion

Fully Funded 2026 University of Pretoria Commonwealth Scholarship for Doctoral Studies: Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a citizen of a Commonwealth country (South Africans are not eligible)

  • Must have completed a Master’s degree at least two years prior to applying for 2026 admission

  • Must be under 38 years old at the time of application

  • Must not be a current or former Master’s or Doctoral student at the University of Pretoria

Documents Required

  • Proof of citizenship from a Commonwealth country

  • Master’s degree certificate and transcripts

  • Research proposal aligned with UP’s research strengths

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)

  • Two academic reference letters

Important Notes

  • The scholarship is highly competitive, and only top-performing candidates will be considered

  • Applications open 29 July 2025 and close 20 September 2025

Selection Process

Applicants will be evaluated based on academic merit, research potential, and alignment with the University of Pretoria’s research priorities.
