Fully Funded CAS ANSO Scholarship for International Master’s and PhD Students 2026: Overview

The CAS ANSO Scholarship (Degree Program) 2026 is a fully funded opportunity for outstanding young scientists and researchers from around the world to pursue Master’s or PhD degrees in China.

Organized by the Alliance of National and International Science Organizations (ANSO) and led by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), this program aims to promote scientific collaboration, technological innovation, and sustainable development globally.

Each year, the scholarship supports 100–200 Master’s students and 300 PhD students at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), and various CAS institutes across China.

Fully Funded CAS ANSO Scholarship for International Master’s and PhD Students 2026: Eligibility

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Not hold Chinese citizenship.

  • Be proficient in English or Chinese.

  • Meet the admission criteria for international students at USTC or UCAS.

  • Be born on or after:

    • 1 January 1996 for Master’s program applicants.

    • 1 January 1991 for PhD program applicants.

  • Not be currently enrolled in a master’s or doctoral program in China.

  • Apply to only one host university (USTC or UCAS). Applicants who apply to both will be disqualified.

  • Be available for full-time study and not engaged in other employment during the scholarship period.

Note:

  • For ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD awardees, funding is jointly provided by CAS and TWAS/UNESCO, with up to 40 PhD students selected annually — 10 of whom will focus on climate-related research.

  • Priority consideration is given to candidates from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and women applicants.

Fellowship/Program Components

Awardees will:

  • Complete Chinese language and culture training.

  • Undertake practical research projects under expert supervision.

  • Fulfil coursework and thesis requirements at USTC, UCAS, or CAS institutes.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary seminars and workshops within the ANSO network.

Application Requirements

Applicants must prepare:

  • Completed online application form via USTC or UCAS portal.

  • Academic transcripts and degree certificates.

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV).

  • Two reference letters from academic supervisors.

  • Research proposal or study plan.

  • Proof of English or Chinese proficiency (IELTS, TOEFL, or HSK accepted).

Candidates are evaluated based on:
