Fully Funded Chinese Government Scholarship 2026 Overview
The Chinese Government, through the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), is offering fully funded scholarships to South African students for the 2026/2027 academic year. The scholarship covers undergraduate, postgraduate (Master’s and PhD), and non-degree Chinese language studies at top Chinese universities.
Fully Funded Chinese Government Scholarship 2026 Eligibility
Applicants must:

Be South African citizens in good health.

Have a minimum 60% average in their most recent academic qualification.

Be available to study in China from September 2026.

Demonstrate an interest in China and a commitment to South Africa’s development.

Fully Funded Chinese Government Scholarship 2026 Application Requirements
All documents must be in PDF format and clearly named. Requirements include:

Completed DHET application form

Valid South African ID and passport

Academic transcripts and certificates

Two reference letters

Motivation letter (1 page)

Non-criminal record report

Foreigner Physical Examination Form

Research proposal (for postgraduate applicants)

Selection Criteria

Priority given to previously disadvantaged individuals and those applying in priority fields such as Engineering, Agriculture, Climate Change, Computer Science, Nuclear Energy, etc.

Applicants must undertake independent research into their programs.

Degrees obtained in China must be verified and recognized in South Africa.

No extra funding will be provided beyond the stated benefits.

Recipients must return to South Africa after completing their studies.
