Fully Funded Ireland Fellows Program 2026: Overview

The Ireland Fellows Programme – Africa offers early to mid-career professionals from eligible African countries the opportunity to pursue a fully funded one-year master’s degree at a top Irish university. Funded by the Government of Ireland and implemented by Irish Embassies and the Irish Council for International Students (ICOS), this fellowship is designed to build future leaders committed to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and fostering enduring ties with Ireland.

Fully Funded Ireland Fellows Program 2026: Eligibility Criteria

✅ Be a national and resident of an eligible African country (see list below)
✅ Have at least 2–3 years of relevant professional work experience
✅ Hold a Bachelor’s degree (minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 or 2:1 equivalent) awarded within the last 12 years
✅ Not already possess a Master’s or higher degree
✅ Demonstrate strong leadership potential and a commitment to SDGs
✅ Select three eligible master’s programmes from the provided directory
✅ Be committed to returning home to apply newly acquired knowledge
✅ Must not have applied for the Ireland Fellows Programme more than once

Angola, Burundi, DRC, Djibouti, Eritrea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe

Note: In countries like Kenya, Liberia, Somalia, and others, only applicants invited via Irish Aid partner organisations are eligible. Contact the Irish Embassy in your country for eligibility confirmation.

. Personal statement
. List of 3 selected courses from eligible programme directory

Important Notes

. English language proficiency is required (IELTS/Duolingo); preparation is advised
. Fellowship does not support dependents or family relocation
. You must apply to begin study in August/September 2026
. Females, people with disabilities, and underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply

Selection Process

The application involves three stages:

  1. Preliminary Application

  2. Detailed Application (if shortlisted)

  3. Interview + English Language Test (Duolingo/IELTS)
