The Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program is a fully funded opportunity for exceptional students worldwide to pursue any graduate degree at Stanford University. It provides leadership training, funding, and a global community aimed at developing future leaders who can tackle complex global challenges. Scholars are selected based on their independence of thought, purposeful leadership, and civic mindset.

Application Deadlines

  • Knight-Hennessy Application Deadline: October 8, 2025

  • Stanford Graduate Program Deadlines: Vary by department (usually between October and December 2025)

Scholarship Categories

  • Master’s Programs (MA, MS, MBA, MFA, MPP, etc.)

  • Doctoral Programs (PhD, MD, JD, DMA, etc.)

  • Dual/Degree combinations (e.g., JD/MBA, PhD/MPP)

Fully Funded Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program 2026 at Stanford University, USA: Eligibility Criteria

  • Must apply to and be accepted into a full-time graduate program at Stanford University for the 2026 academic year.

  • Must have earned a bachelor’s degree between January 2019 and September 2026. (If military service, the degree must be earned in January 2017 or later).

  • Open to all nationalities with no restrictions on citizenship, age, or discipline.

  • Current Stanford graduate students (in first year of PhD or starting a second full-time degree) are also eligible.

Documents Required

  • Online application for Knight-Hennessy Scholars

  • Stanford graduate program application (submitted separately)

  • Resume or CV

  • Transcript(s)

  • Two recommendation letters

  • One personal essay

  • Short answer responses

  • Video introduction

  • Standardized test scores (if required by your Stanford program)

  • English proficiency test scores (if applicable)

Important Notes

  • You must submit two separate applications: one for Knight-Hennessy and one for your chosen Stanford graduate program.

  • The program does not fund part-time, online, or coterminal programs.

  • Programs like JSD, MLS, or HCP are not eligible.

Selection Process

Candidates are evaluated based on three core criteria:

  1. Independence of Thought – critical thinking, originality, intellectual curiosity

  2. Purposeful Leadership – resilience, ethical decision-making, results-driven leadership

  3. Civic Mindset – commitment to inclusion, service, and global impact

Finalists will be invited for an in-person Immersion Weekend at Stanford.
