German Government WASCAL Scholarship for International Students 2025  Overview

The West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL), with funding from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), is inviting applications for its International Master’s Programme in Energy and Green Hydrogen (IMP-EGH). The program is open to applicants from all 15 ECOWAS countries, including Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo.

WASCAL focuses on climate change adaptation, land use management, and sustainable energy solutions through graduate-level scientific capacity building and policy advisory services. The IMP-EGH programme aims to equip future leaders with technical and policy expertise to tackle energy and climate adaptation challenges in West Africa.

Master’s Programmes & Host Universities

The IMP-EGH programme offers specialized tracks across four universities in West Africa:

1. Université Cheikh Anta Diop – Senegal

   • Focus: Economics, Policies, Infrastructures, and Green Hydrogen Technology

2. University of Lomé – Togo

   • Focus: Bioenergy, Biofuels, and Green Hydrogen Technology

3. Université Abdou Moumouni – Niger

   • Focus: Photovoltaic and System Analysis for Green Hydrogen Technologies

4. Université Felix Houphouët Boigny – Côte D’Ivoire

   • Focus: Green Hydrogen Production, Geo-resources (Wind/Water), and Green Hydrogen Technology

Duration

• Total: 28 months
  • 4 months: Language training (proficiency development)
  • 24 months: Master’s programme coursework & research
