GREAT Scholarship at the University of York 2025 Overview

In collaboration with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign, the University of York is offering 8 scholarships worth £10,000 each for the 2025/26 academic year. These scholarships support outstanding students from selected countries pursuing a one-year postgraduate taught course in the UK.

GREAT Scholarship at the University of York 2025: Eligible Countries

China, Greece, Indonesia, Malaysia (Law-related programs only), Nigeria, Thailand, and Vietnam.

GREAT Scholarship at the University of York 2025 Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

• Be a citizen and resident of one of the eligible countries

• Be paying international/overseas tuition fees

• Hold a conditional or unconditional offer for a one-year postgraduate taught course at the University of York by 16 May 2025

• Meet the English language requirements by 16 May 2025

• Not hold a 100% tuition scholarship or be fully sponsored

• Not already be a current student at the University of York

• Not be enrolled in any excluded pathways, including:

  • Hull York Medical School

  • Distance or part-time learning

  • International Pathway College

  • Kaplan International College

  • MA Public Policy (Mundus MAPP)

  • CASPPER

  • Master’s programs lasting longer than 1 year

Note for Malaysian Applicants

Only eligible for the following law-related postgraduate courses:

• LLM Law

• LLM Art Law

• LLM International Corporate and Commercial Law

• LLM International Human Rights Law and Practice

• LLM Legal and Political Theory

• LLM International Law and Practice

• LLM Professional Legal Practice (SQE1 & SQE2)

• MA Applied Human Rights

• LLM International Business Law and Practice

• £10,000 tuition fee deduction

• Opportunity to represent the University of York and the British Council as a GREAT Ambassador

How to Apply

• Submit the online scholarship application before the deadline

• Answer questions on your course, background, and future goals

• You may need to upload a document confirming your nationality

Selection Process

• A university panel will review all applications

• Preference is given to applicants with strong academic performance (e.g., UK first class or equivalent)

• Successful applicants must:

  • Accept the scholarship offer formally

  • Make York their firm choice by the deadline in the offer email

Important Notes

• The scholarship cannot be deferred

• It can be combined with other scholarships (as long as tuition fees aren’t fully covered)
