Overview

The HAN University of Applied Sciences Scholarships are prestigious, merit-based awards for outstanding international students from outside the EU/EEA who wish to study a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the Netherlands. These scholarships are offered in collaboration with the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and partner institutions, including the well-known NL Scholarship.

Eligibility

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be a non-EU/EEA national (excluding Suriname)

  • Pay institutional (higher) tuition fees

  • Have no previous degree or enrolment at a Dutch university

  • Be accepted into a full-time English-taught Bachelor’s or Master’s programme at HAN

  • Meet English language requirements:

    • IELTS 6.5, or

    • TOEFL iBT 90, or

    • Cambridge CAE or CPE

  • Demonstrate strong academic performance and personal development

  • NL Scholarship
    Supported by:

    • Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science

    • Netherlands Association of Universities of Applied Sciences

    • Universities and internationalisation bodies in the Netherlands

(Available for both Bachelor’s and Master’s students)

Application Requirements

Shortlisted applicants will be asked to submit:

  • Motivation letter (why you’ll succeed at HAN)

  • Short video (max. 3 minutes) covering:

    • Personal strengths and achievements

    • Academic background

    • Chosen course at HAN

    • Team role and personality

    • Career goals (10-year outlook)

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)

  • Most recent academic transcript

Application Process (5 Steps)

  1. Apply and gain admission to a degree programme at HAN

  2. Receive email invitation to apply for a scholarship (if eligible)

  3. Submit scholarship application online

  4. Receive scholarship decision by email

  5. Accept the scholarship offer in writing

Important Dates

September Intake

  • Invitation email: 1 April

  • Scholarship deadline: 1 May (12:00 CEST)

  • Results: 1 June

February Intake

  • Invitation email: 1 October

  • Scholarship deadline: 19 October (12:00 CEST)

  • Results: 3 November
