Overview

The Islam Scholarship is a prestigious university-funded award offered by the University of Birmingham to support students studying MA Islamic Studies. Funded through the Islam Fund, the scholarship aims to promote advanced study of Islam and Christian–Muslim Relations and can cover up to 100% of tuition fees for eligible students.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Apply for and be accepted into the MA Islamic Studies programme at the University of Birmingham

  • Be a new postgraduate taught student commencing studies in the 2026 academic year

  • Be classified as Home or International (open to all nationalities)

  • Intend to return to their country of ordinary residence after completing their studies

  • Not be a current Master’s student

  • Not hold the award alongside any other scholarship

  • Completed application to study MA Islamic Studies

  • Online funding application form

  • Two academic references submitted via the official online funding reference form

Selection Criteria

Applications are:

  • Reviewed, graded, and ranked by School Panels

  • Selected based on academic merit and suitability for the programme

  • Considered automatically for other College of Arts and Law scholarships, where eligible

Application Process

  1. Apply for admission to the MA Islamic Studies programme

  2. Complete the online funding application form

  3. Ensure two referees submit references using the correct online reference form

  4. Submit all components before the deadline

Incomplete or late applications (including missing or late references) will not be considered.

Important Dates

  • Application Deadline: 25 March 2026 (12:00 noon GMT)

  • Study Start: 2026 academic year

  • Decision Notification: Between early May and end of June 2026

Important Notes

  • References must be submitted on the correct online form by the deadline

  • No extensions or late submissions are accepted

  • The scholarship cannot be combined with any other funding
