Accountant at Netcom Africa Limited, Lagos, Nigeria

The ideal candidate is responsible for the accurate execution of accounting operations, financial reporting, working capital management, and maintenance of the general ledger. The role ensures timely preparation of financial information, effective management of accounts payable processes, and adherence to established financial controls and accounting standards. He / She will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting audit activities, strengthening financial processes, and providing reliable financial data to support management decision-making.

Primary Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & General Ledger Management

  • Own the end-to-end month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring all journal entries are accurately processed in compliance with accounting standards.
  • Prepare structured trial balances, balance sheet reconciliations, and initial financial statement drafts (P&L, Balance Sheet) on a strict monthly timeline.
  • Maintain a clean, audit-ready general ledger with robust documentation for all balance sheet accounts.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors, preparing required schedules and systematically pulling supporting paperwork.

Working Capital & Cash Flow Administration

  • Compile daily, weekly, and monthly cash flow data inputs to generate baseline operational cash flow trackers.
  • Monitor bank balances daily and performs comprehensive bank reconciliations to ensure underlying data integrity.
  • Highlight immediate cash requirements and upcoming historical commitments systematically to management.

Vendor Aged Payable Management

  • Take full ownership of the Accounts Payable (AP) sub-ledger, ensuring all vendor invoices are systematically coded, routed for approval, and logged.
  • Generate and maintain structured Vendor Aged Payables reports on a weekly basis, highlighting overdue balances and critical payment deadlines.
  • Organize and prepare proposed bi-weekly or monthly payment runs based on strict aging criteria and cash preservation policies for managerial sign-off.
  • Serve as the functional touchpoint for standard vendor inquiries regarding payment status, reconciling statements directly with vendors.

Process Standardization & Structured Delivery

  • Establish fixed timelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for data submission, minimizing dependency on ad-hoc or “quick-fix” solutions.
  • Package recurring financial data packages into clean, consistent, and structured formats before handing them over to management for analytical review.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Reporting Punctuality: Delivery of initial monthly trial balance and draft reports within designated business days of month-end.
  • Ledger Accuracy: Zero material adjustments required during final managerial or external audit reviews due to transactional errors.
  • AP Aging Health: Reduction in overdue vendor balances and elimination of un-reconciled statements or missing vendor invoices.
  • Data Systematization: Successful transition of standard reports into recurring, documented schedules rather than manual, reactive tasks.

Educational & Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 4–6 years’ relevant experience in financial accounting, reporting, accounts payable, or related finance functions.
  • Professional certification such as ACCA, ACA, ICAN, CPA, or equivalent is required.
  • Membership of a recognized professional accounting body is an added advantage.

Essential Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of financial accounting principles and reporting standards.
  • Experience with month-end and year-end close processes.
  • General Ledger and Accounts Payable management experience.
  • Financial statement preparation and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Working knowledge of cash flow management and forecasting.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, Index Match, and financial reporting models.
  • Experience using ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, QuickBooks Enterprise, or similar platforms.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet reporting deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable Skills & Knowledge:

  • Experience within the telecommunications, technology, ISP, or managed services industry.
  • Exposure to budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Experience supporting external audits and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Knowledge of process improvement and financial controls implementation.
  • Experience developing financial dashboards and management reports.
  • Familiarity with Power BI or other financial reporting and visualization tools.
  • Understanding of tax compliance and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, growth-oriented business environment.
