Job Title: Communication/Knowledge Management Specialist

Project Overview and Role:

 SCALE is a USAID-funded 5-year project (Oct 08, 2020 – Oct 07, 2025), implemented by Palladium in collaboration with the local resource partners. The objective of the SCALE project is to strengthen the financial, management, and advocacy capacity of local civil society organizations (CSOs) and Business Membership Organizations (BMOs) in Nigeria to create a more accountable, transparent, peaceful, and democratic Nigeria with more effective and efficient public service delivery. SCALE supports civil society organizations (CSOs) and business membership organizations (BMOs) across all of USAID/Nigeria’s programmatic sectors with a basket of managerial, business strengthening, and advocacy capacity-building interventions aimed at advancing Nigerian CSO sustainability combined with targeted grants to advance mutually agreed upon priorities. The project is designed to enhance local civil society organizations’ ability to be positive and responsible change agents in Nigeria.

Communication and Knowledge Management Specialist is a consultancy position, expected to work remotely with the Nigeria SCALE country and HQ teams. The position will assist SCALE to strategize the project communication and knowledge management (KM) activities; together with technical and communication staff, support development of knowledge products, including success stories, nuggets, technical publications, reports, learning briefs, updates/newsletters, fact sheets, brochures, presentations, videos, posters, and social media content; and assist with documentation and dissemination of the project results. The position is also expected to work with the country team to identify, develop and publish abstracts and articles in relevant local, regional, and international journals and platforms.

 This is a Level of Efforts (LOE)–based consultancy, with up to three days per month, over a 12-month period (November 01, 2023-Oct 31, 2024), for a total of 36 days.

 Location: This is a remote consultancy assignment.

Reporting and Supervision: The role reports to SCALE’s Project Director, based in Palladium’s Washington, D.C. office.

Communication/Knowledge Management Specialist  Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review and improve SCALE’s communication strategy and implementation approach.
  • Support development of knowledge products, together with country technical and communication staff, that may include success stories, nuggets, technical publications, reports, learning briefs, updates/newsletters, fact sheets, brochures, presentations, videos, posters, and social media content.
  • Assist with documentation and dissemination of project results.
  • Work with the country team to publish and present abstracts and articles about project results in relevant local, regional, and international journals and platforms.
  • Ensure proper products’ branding and marking as per SCALE’s branding and marking strategy.

Key Competencies Required:

  • Content Development: ability to develop high quality communication and knowledge management content such as case studies, success stories, nuggets, technical briefs, abstracts, and publications.
  • Strategic thinking: aligning communication and knowledge management strategies with organizational goals.
  • Information technology: Proficiency in relevant software and tools for data management, communication, and documentation sharing.
  • Information Management: ability to organize, store and retrieve data and knowledge efficiently.
  • Interpersonal skills: building and maintaining relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Data security and privacy: ensuring the confidentiality and integrity of sensitive information.
  • Adaptability: Being flexible and open to evolving project needs in communication, new communication methods and technologies.

Professional Expertise/Competencies Preferred:

  • Considerable experience in design and implementation of communications strategies, developing knowledge products, platforms, communication planning and execution.
  • Experience of working with USAID-funded programs including ensuring branding and marking compliance.
