About Content Lead Role
On Deck is looking for a Content Lead to grow two of our main content franchises: Stories and Media Desk.
The On Deck Stories Franchise creates high-quality content that showcases crisp, narrative-driven, and detail-oriented storytelling to signal the quality of our network and the impact that On Deck has on the trajectory of Fellows who experience it. The goals of the Stories franchise are oriented towards legitimacy marketing and providing personas for prospective Fellows.
Media Desk is an evolving entity under Marketing. The Media Desk exists to communicate fundraisers and newsworthy successes of On Deck companies to the public, as well as provide inward facing concierge-style consulting services in the realm of media and
Who you are:
- 4+ years of experience in content (alternatively, tech journalism experience could work).
- 2+ years of experience managing a team of 2 or more, preferably in a remote, global environment.
- You are an experienced SEO practitioner and have optimized and high-ranking content in your portfolio.
- You know how to write persuasive copy that gets results.
- You know how to analyze SEO and CRO results in Google Analytics and use the data to plan content strategy.
- You’re a self-starter who loves taking initiative and seeing things through from conception to completion.
- You’re an excellent communicator who makes sure nothing slips through the cracks. We believe communication is critical and there is no such thing as over-communicating.
- You take pride in the quality and craftsmanship of your work rather than just doing it to get it done.
- You have a passion for producing and optimizing content that gets real results.
- You are comfortable giving critical feedback to peers (in a respectful and productive manner) and also don’t take the feedback given personally.
- You’re able to juggle multiple tasks and projects and prioritize your work effectively.
- You’re happy working on tasks of all sizes, delegating and overseeing strategy as well as jumping in to take care of the details yourself when needed.
What you will do:
- Sourcing leads to maintain a pipeline of subjects, writing and assigning stories, interviewing high-value Fellows, sourcing quality investor remarks, and coordinating timed execution across social media (in coordination with social media colleagues) and content publishing to ensure a Post of Record.
- Analyzing content marketing data to identify trends and anticipate customer needs.
- Performing content audits to assess how well existing content is performing.
- Performing content gap analyses to determine what type of content is missing and what is needed.
- Developing a solid understanding of the target audience through online and traditional market research.
- Collaborate with teams across On Deck to support content, brand storytelling and copywriting as needed.
Why you might be excited about us:
- We’re tackling a big problem with even bigger potential. Participants in our existing Fellowships say great things about us.
- You’ll be able to work remotely and (mostly) set your own schedule. On Deck was a remote-first team even before COVID, so we know what makes for a great remote environment.
- You’ll have a lot of flexibility in your role, and will be able to help define what our operations infrastructure looks like going forward.
- We’re backed by a who’s who of the biggest names in the venture investing world, including Founders Fund, Village Global, Keith Rabois, Balaji Srinivasan, Bloomberg Beta, and so many more. (Read more about our Series A in this memo)
Why you might *not* be excited about us:
- We’re still a fairly small team with about 150 people (company-wide), so if you like more established companies, this role isn’t for you. You’ll help create our company’s culture.
- We’re an early-stage startup. Projects and priorities are likely to shift.
- Everyone on the team is extremely mission-driven and works incredibly hard to push towards our lofty ambitions. Most people won’t be cut out for it.
- You should be comfortable with just a dash of chaos. This is not the kind of job where you show up and we tell you exactly what to do every day.
- On Deck is an unabashedly pro-startup, pro-tech organization. If that’s not your thing, this isn’t the place for you.
Compensation
This role comes with a competitive salary, stock options, you can take any PTO you
