Data Engineer at Deel, Remote (Global)
The Data Platform team at Deel is dedicated to enhancing data quality, optimizing pipeline performance, building robust platform tools, and managing costs across the entire data stack—from ingestion to outbound integrations and everything in between. As a Data Engineer on this team, you’ll play a critical role in shaping the future of Deel’s data infrastructure, ensuring it scales effectively with 30+ Analytics Engineers and 100+ data professionals embedded across the organization.
Our team collaborates cross-functionally with analysts, analytics engineers, data scientists, software engineers, and leadership to achieve these goals.
Responsibilities
As a Data Engineer on the Data Platform team, you will:
- Design, implement, and manage scalable and efficient data pipelines using tools like Snowflake, Airflow, dbt, and Fivetran. Experience with similar technologies is also valued as we continuously evolve our stack.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and deliver solutions that align with business needs.
- Implement and enforce robust data governance policies to maintain data integrity, quality, and security.
- Develop and maintain ELT processes to extract, load, and transform data from diverse sources into the data warehouse in both batch and streaming fashion.
- Optimize SQL queries to enhance data analysis and reporting.
- Partner with data analysts, data scientists, analytics engineers, and stakeholders to understand data workflows and provide technical support.
- Diagnose and resolve data-related issues promptly.
- Build a cutting-edge development environment and CI/CD system to ensure scalability and efficiency.
- Ingest data from various external systems via APIs.
- Stay informed on industry trends and emerging technologies to drive continuous improvement in data engineering practices.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 3 years as a Data Engineer or in a similar role.
- Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in Python and SQL; experience with Golang or JVM-based languages is a plus.
- Data Warehousing: Hands-on experience with cloud-based data warehouses.
- Data Modeling: Proficiency in designing efficient database schemas.
- Workflow Orchestration: Familiarity with tools like Apache Airflow.
- Data Streaming: Experience with data streaming and Change Data Capture (CDC).
- Infrastructure: Proficiency in Terraform and GitHub Actions.
- Compliance: Experience in setting up PII anonymization and RBAC.
- Collaboration: Strong ability to work with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
Preferred Skills
- Kubernetes: Experience with Kubernetes is a plus.
- Data Warehouse Administration: Prior experience managing data warehouses is advantageous.
- Regulatory Compliance: Familiarity with GDPR or similar data privacy regulations is beneficial.
