Key Responsibilities:
1. Maintain and update the library inventory (books, multimedia, periodicals) and ensure resources are properly catalogued, classified, and shelved.
2. Assist children in locating age-appropriate and literacy-level-appropriate materials, and lead reading sessions for children under 6.
3. Support the TBC Coordinator in selecting books, organizing storytelling, author events, and information literacy activities.
4. Manage the check-out process, keep accurate usage records, and regularly audit the collection and database.
5. Develop and enforce library policies, supervise assistants or interns, and oversee the order, cleanliness, and protection of library resources.
6. Promote analytical thinking and information literacy through discussions with children and educate users on effective database searching.
7. Ensure the collection meets the needs of all users, including children with disabilities and special needs, to foster inclusion.
8. Publicize library services and implement improved information management techniques.
Requirements:
1. Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Library Science (required).
2. Experience working in a library, preferably with children, is an asset.
3. Familiarity with cataloguing standards, classification schemes, and library management systems.
4. Strong organizational, communication, and storytelling skills.
5. Commitment to inclusive practice and alignment with TBC’s core values.
