Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy PhD Scholarship 2026: Overview

The Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP) at the National University of Singapore offers fully funded PhD scholarships to outstanding candidates passionate about social sciences, governance, and international affairs. Located in Singapore—one of the world’s leading policy hubs—the program provides scholars with rigorous training and financial support to advance their academic and professional careers in public policy research.

Eligibility

  • Qualification Types: PhD students only

  • Nationality: Open to Singapore Citizens, Singapore Permanent Residents, and all International Students

  • Academic Requirements:

    • A relevant Master’s degree with strong academic performance

    • Preferably at least 2 years of work experience

    • Strong academic background in Social Sciences and deep interest in international affairs

Benefits

PhD scholarship holders receive a monthly stipend:

  • Singapore Citizens: SGD 2,800/month (+ SGD 500 after passing PhD Qualifying Exam) + CPF contributions

  • Singapore Permanent Residents: SGD 2,400/month (+ SGD 500 after PhD Qualifying Exam)

  • International Students: SGD 2,200/month (+ SGD 500 after PhD Qualifying Exam)

Typical award period: 3 years
No service commitments or bonds required

Application Requirements

  • Submit application through GradApp (NUS Graduate Admissions Portal)

  • Complete the PhD program application + scholarship section within the same portal

  • Provide all supporting documents (academic transcripts, CV, statement of purpose, referee reports, etc.)

  • Fulfill any additional requirements specified by LKYSPP

Selection Criteria

  • Strong academic record at the Master’s level

  • Clear research potential in public policy and social sciences

  • Relevant professional/work experience (preferred)

  • Motivation to contribute to policy research and practice

Application Process

  • Applications for January (Semester 2 Intake) open August 1 – December 10

  • Apply via GradApp → Indicate scholarship interest in your application

  • Shortlisted applicants may be invited for an interview

  • Final results communicated by the admissions office
