Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University (Undergraduate) 2025/26 Overview

Makerere University, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, is offering 190 undergraduate scholarships for the 2025/26 academic year. This initiative aims to support talented young individuals from Sub-Saharan Africa who face financial barriers in accessing university education.

Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University (Undergraduate) 2025/26 Eligibility

Applicants must be:

• Ugandan nationals, refugees, persons with disabilities, internally displaced young people, or international students.
• Have applied for admission to Makerere University’s main campus under the Private Sponsorship Scheme for the 2025/26 academic year.
• Meet one of the following academic requirements:
  • Completed advanced secondary education (or equivalent) in an African country.
  • Hold a second-class/credit diploma from a recognized institution.
  • Passed the Mature Age Entry Exam of Makerere University.
• Must be experiencing financial hardships.
• Must not hold any other scholarship, including the Government of Uganda Scholarship.
• Must not have completed an undergraduate degree before.
• Must demonstrate leadership potential and/or community service.
• Age limits:
  • 28 years or younger at the time of application.
  • 32 years or younger for refugees and persons with disabilities.

• Full tuition fees.
• Living expenses, academic materials, and mentorship support.

Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University (Undergraduate) 2025/26 Application Process

1. Apply for admission to Makerere University’s Private Sponsorship Scheme.
2. Complete the online scholarship application form at https://apply.mastercardfoundation.mak.ac.ug/.
3. Submit the application before the deadline: 6th June 2025 (11:59 PM EAT).
4. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted for further selection.

Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University (Undergraduate) 2025/26 Selection Priorities

• At least 70% of scholarships will be awarded to young women.
• At least 25% of scholarships will be awarded to refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs).
• At least 10% of scholarships will be awarded to young people with disabilities.

Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University (Undergraduate) 2025/26 Important Notes

• The application process is free of charge – beware of fraudsters soliciting money.
• Merit-based selection – any dishonesty or falsification of documents will result in disqualification and legal action.
• Only successful applicants will be notified by August 2025.
