MS Graduate Assistantship in Wetland Hydrology and Biogeochemistry at Auburn University: Overview

Auburn University’s Department of Crop, Soil, and Environmental Sciences invites applications for an MS Graduate Research Assistantship starting Spring 2026. The selected candidate will join an interdisciplinary research team focused on understanding wetland hydrology and biogeochemistry, specifically improving the detection of hydric soils in challenging environments. This project supports wetland conservation and restoration through the USDA-NRCS Wetland Reserve Easement (WRE) program.

MS Graduate Assistantship in Wetland Hydrology and Biogeochemistry at Auburn University: Eligibility

Applicants must have:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Soil Science, Hydrology, Environmental Science, or a closely related field.

  • Strong writing and communication skills.

  • Proficiency in R or Python for data analysis and modeling.

  • A valid U.S. driver’s license for field visits.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Background in wetland soils, biogeochemistry, or soil hydrology.

  • Experience with machine learning, image processing, or hydrological modeling (e.g., Hydrus).

  • Strong statistical and time-series analysis skills.

  • Familiarity with digital soil mapping and soil morphology.

  • Linking soil morphology, hydrology, and biogeochemistry in problematic soil environments.

  • Testing IRIS rhizosphere cameras and developing advanced protocols for smectitic soils.

  • Contributing to wetland restoration and conservation strategies.
