The University of Rhode Island is offering a fully funded Graduate Assistantship (Ph.D. or M.Sc) to investigate the effects of shellfish aquaculture disturbances on the movement ecology of the American Black Duck in southern New England.
This project involves GPS transmitter tracking, experimental aquaculture site operations, and spatial analysis to understand waterfowl habitat use, energetic costs, and inland water reliance. Findings will contribute directly to waterfowl conservation and management strategies.
Key Responsibilities

Capture and mark American Black Ducks with GPS transmitters

Conduct field experiments with pseudo-aquaculture sites

Analyze spatial and movement data

Supervise research assistants and undergraduate field staff

Collaborate with a multidisciplinary research team
Eligibility Criteria

Education:
-
Ph.D. applicants: Relevant M.Sc. strongly preferred; exceptional B.Sc. holders with extensive field experience considered

M.Sc. applicants: B.Sc. in animal/wildlife biology or ecology, plus exceptional field experience

GPA: Minimum 3.2 (on a 4.0 scale)

Field research experience (waterfowl capture & handling highly desirable)

Stipend:

~$25,000 per academic year (level-dependent)
