Rotary Yoneyama Scholarship for Overseas Candidates – Study in Japan 2026: Overview
The Rotary Yoneyama Scholarship for Overseas Candidates supports talented international students planning to pursue graduate-level studies at APU in Japan. Open to master’s and doctoral candidates, this scholarship is designed for those living outside Japan with a good command of Japanese, providing generous financial support and travel assistance. Applicants must apply to both APU and the scholarship organization independently and meet specific residency and nationality requirements.
Eligibility Criteria

Must not hold Japanese nationality (dual nationals included)

Must obtain a student visa for study in Japan

Residing outside Japan until program start

Must not have stayed in Japan for more than 31 days total, except under specific conditions

Japanese language ability equivalent to JLPT N4 or higher

Born after April 2, 1981

Conditions 1 & 2 can be met by the time of arrival if not already met at application stage
Scholarship Benefits

Monthly stipend: 140,000 JPY (for 2 years for both Master’s & Doctoral)

Travel reimbursement: Economy air ticket & related expenses up to 250,000 JPY after arrival in Japan

Application Process

Indicate interest in the Rotary Yoneyama Scholarship in the APU Online Application and submit application to APU.

Apply directly to the Rotary Yoneyama Memorial Foundation around October 2025.

APU issues a Letter of Acceptance to selected scholarship candidates after admission results.

Submit the acceptance letter to the scholarship organization.
