Overview

The University of Eastern Finland (UEF) offers affordable, high-quality Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes taught in English, with clear tuition fees and multiple scholarship/waiver options for international students.

For students from outside the EU/EEA or Switzerland, the standard tuition fee is €10,000 per academic year, with opportunities to reduce or completely waive this fee through merit-based scholarships and tuition waivers.

Tuition Fees

• €10,000 per academic year

• Applies to non-EU/EEA/Swiss students

• Bachelor’s: usually 3 years

• Master’s: usually 2 years

• Bachelor’s + Master’s combined: 5 years

Programmes taught in Finnish are free, regardless of nationality.

Early Bird Discount (2026 Intake)

• €500 one-time tuition discount

• Available if you:

  • Accept your study place

  • Pay tuition via Flywire

Scholarships & Tuition Waivers at UEF

UEF offers limited, merit-based funding, awarded during the admission process:

1. UEF Scholarship

   • 100% tuition fee waiver

   • One student per programme

   • Applied for during admission

2. Tuition Waiver

   • 30% or up to 50% tuition reduction

   • 50% waivers are very limited

   • In some programmes, 30% is granted to all fee-paying students

3. Finnish Language Proficiency Waiver

   • 🇫🇮 Applied for after enrolment

   • Based on demonstrated Finnish skills

Scholarships and waivers do not cover living or travel costs.

Who Is Exempt from Paying Tuition?

You do not pay tuition fees if you:

• Are an EU/EEA or Swiss citizen

• Hold qualifying Finnish residence permits (e.g. P, A (non-study), EU Blue Card, family ties, Brexit permits, temporary protection)

• Have a valid permit by 1 August

Application & Payment Notes

• Annual tuition must be paid by 31 August

• Payment via Flywire

• Non-EU/EEA applicants must pay a mandatory application fee (except Erasmus Mundus & YUFE programmes)

Refund Policy (Key Points)

Tuition may be refunded if:

• Residence permit is not granted

• Admission conditions are not met

• Studies cannot be offered

• Permit status changes before 1 August

No refund if you withdraw to attend another university after paying the Early Bird fee.
