The University of British Columbia (UBC) International Scholars Program offers prestigious, fully funded undergraduate scholarships to outstanding international students. These awards recognize academic excellence, leadership, and community impact, while ensuring talented students with financial need can pursue a world-class education at UBC in Canada.
Eligibility
To apply, you must:

Be an international student studying in Canada on a study permit.

Be entering UBC directly from high school or transferring from first-year post-secondary studies.
-
Have graduated no earlier than one gap year before the year of entry.
-
Apply for your first undergraduate degree.
-
Demonstrate superior academic achievement (all A’s or equivalent).
-
Show financial need that would otherwise prevent you from studying at UBC.
-
Meet UBC admission requirements, including English Language requirements (or apply through Vantage One if you don’t yet meet them).

Be nominated by your school or a non-profit, and provide a reference from an academic referee.

Types of Awards
There are four main awards under the International Scholars Program:

Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award – For students with top academics and leadership skills who empower their communities.

Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award – For exceptional students from war-torn or impoverished regions who achieved excellence despite hardship.

International Impact Award – For students showing leadership in climate change, sustainability, equity, inclusion, and health.

Vantage One Excellence Award – For academically outstanding students who don’t yet meet UBC’s English Language requirements.
Selection Criteria
Candidates are evaluated based on:

Academic excellence (grades and achievements).

Leadership qualities (school or community involvement, initiatives, collaboration).

Financial need (must show that without support, study at UBC would not be possible).

Community and global impact (past contributions and future potential).
Application Process

Choose your academic program (note: Nursing, Dental Hygiene, Medical Laboratory Science, and dual/joint degrees are not eligible).

Get nominated by your school or a non-profit and secure an academic referee.

Prepare financial info, extracurricular records, and achievements.

Submit the International Scholars Program application by November 15, 2025.

Submit your UBC admission application by December 1, 2025.
