UNIL Master’s Excellence Scholarships in Switzerland 2025 | Study in Europe: Overview

The University of Lausanne (UNIL), Switzerland, offers around ten (10) Master’s Excellence Scholarships every year to outstanding international students with exceptional academic results. The scholarship supports high-achieving graduates from foreign universities who wish to pursue a Master’s degree at UNIL.

It is a partial scholarship (not fully funded) and provides financial aid plus tuition fee exemption.

UNIL Master’s Excellence Scholarships in Switzerland 2025 | Study in Europe: Eligibility

Applicants must:

• Hold a foreign university degree equivalent to a Swiss Bachelor’s before starting the Master’s.

• Show excellent academic results and strong distinction during prior studies.

• Meet the language requirement of at least C1 in French or English, depending on the Master’s program.

• Not already be registered at UNIL.

• Pay the CHF 200 administrative fee.

⚠️ Additional restrictions:

• Some programs are not eligible, including Medicine, Education, Physical Education & Sport Didactics, Health Sciences, Sustainable Management, Human Taphonomy, and MAS (3rd cycle).

• Law is partly eligible (only International & Comparative Law, Legal Theory, International Tax Law and Policy).

• Extra conditions apply for Psychology and Finance applicants (must also have admission in home country).

• CHF 1,600 per month for the duration of the Master’s program.

• Exemption from fixed registration fees (students only pay CHF 80 per semester).

💡 Note: This scholarship is not sufficient to cover full living expenses in Switzerland. Students must budget accordingly.

Eligible Programs

All UNIL Master’s degrees are open except the excluded ones listed above. Full list of eligible programs is available on UNIL’s website.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit:

• Completed online application form (also serves as admission request).

• Complete application file in PDF format (as listed in UNIL’s requirements).

• Proof of language proficiency.

• Certified copies of academic documents (depending on whether the applicant’s country ratified the Lisbon Recognition Convention).

• CHF 200 application fee.

📦 Applicants from non-ratifying countries must also send certified copies in a sealed university envelope by postal mail.

• Academic excellence and distinction in previous studies.

• Strong potential for success at Master’s level.

• Faculty and UNIL Selection Board review.

• Final decisions are non-appealable.

Application Process & Timeline

• Deadline: November 1, 2025 (for 2026 entry, autumn or spring).

• Apply online and upload all required documents before the deadline.

• If applicable, send sealed certified documents by November 1st (postmark date counts).

Selection Timeline:

• Nov–Dec: UNIL processes applications.

• Jan–Feb: Faculties review eligibility.

• Mar: Selection Board makes decisions.

• Early April: Final results sent to candidates.
