University of Hamburg Merit Scholarship 2025 Overview 

The University of Hamburg Merit Scholarship 2025 supports outstanding international students and doctoral researchers in all subjects and degree levels. This scholarship allows recipients to focus fully on their studies while developing their academic and professional skills.

University of Hamburg Merit Scholarship 2025 Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must:

• Be enrolled at Universität Hamburg for at least two semesters (Master’s and doctoral students can apply after completing one semester).
• Not hold German citizenship.
• Not be eligible for the federal student loan scheme (BAföG).

University of Hamburg Merit Scholarship 2025 Benefits

• Monthly stipend of up to €930.
• Scholarship awarded for two semesters (12 months), with the possibility to reapply.
• Maximum funding duration: two years.

University of Hamburg Merit Scholarship 2025 Application Requirements

Applicants must submit the following documents:

• Curriculum Vitae (CV).
• Letter of motivation (using the provided template).
• Proof of social and/or intercultural activities (if applicable).
• Record of achievements:
  • Bachelor’s and state examination students: STiNE printout or transcript of records.
  • Master’s students and doctoral researchers: Most recent degree certificate with grades (in English or German).
• Two evaluations from full-time doctoral teaching staff at Universität Hamburg (template provided).
• Residence permit (Non-EU citizens) or Identity card & registration certificate (“Meldebescheinigung”) (EU citizens) – must be presented on specific dates.

Application Process

1. Submit an online application via the Universität Hamburg portal using your STiNE ID.
2. Register using your student email address and upload the required documents.
3. Schedule an online meeting via email to present your residency documents on one of the specified dates.
4. Only complete applications submitted by the deadline will be considered—missing documents will not be requested.

Selection Criteria

• Academic performance (good to excellent results).
• Additional knowledge and achievements (e.g., presentations, publications, awards, specialized skills).
• Social and/or intercultural activities (e.g., volunteer work).
• Financial need and social situation.

Selection Process

• Merit scholarships are awarded by a committee of faculty members and the student council (ASTA).
• After the selection process, applicants will receive a notification via email.
• Applicants can check their application status on the online portal.
