Overview

The Faculty of Humanities at the University of Manchester offers competitive and fully funded Master’s + PhD (1+3 or 1+4) studentships for 2026 entry. These awards support outstanding students pursuing advanced research across a wide range of humanities and social sciences fields.

The funding package covers both tuition fees and a generous tax-free stipend, empowering scholars to fully focus on research and academic development.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

• Apply for any eligible Humanities Master’s or PhD programme.

• Meet the minimum academic requirements for their chosen course.

• Apply before the application deadlines for their specific School.

• Be either postgraduate taught or postgraduate research applicants.

• Can be of any nationality (no nationality restrictions).

Benefits

The studentship includes:

• Full tuition fees (at UK or international rate).

• Tax-free annual stipend at the UKRI rate

  • For 2025/26: £20,780 per year.

• Funding for the entire duration of study:

  • 1+3 = Master’s + 3-year PhD

  • 1+4 = Master’s + 4-year PhD

• Continuation of funding is based on satisfactory academic progress.

Programme Components

• Full Master’s programme followed by a funded PhD (1+3 or 1+4 model).

• Supervision and research support within the Faculty of Humanities.

• Offers cannot be deferred.
