The WA Cooke, Jane Cooke, and Alfred Godfrey Scholarship is a fully funded research opportunity for postgraduate students in the University of Sydney Law School. Designed to support legal research excellence, it offers generous funding for PhD, MCrim (Research), or LLM (Research) candidates.
Scholarship Value

Up to 50000 AUD per annum

Duration:

Up to 1.75 years for MCrim (Research) or LLM (Research) (no extension)

Up to 3 years for PhD, with a possible 6-month extension

Primary stipend

Supplementary stipend (to top up another award to 50000 AUD per year)

University of Sydney Law Research Scholarship for Postgraduate Students 2025: Eligibility Criteria

Must have an unconditional offer to study full-time in PhD, MCrim (Research), or LLM (Research) at the University of Sydney Law School
-
Must be willing to conduct research in law

Must hold one of the following:

Honours degree (First Class or Second Class Upper) or equivalent in Law
-
Master’s degree by research
-
Master’s degree by coursework with a High Distinction or Distinction, including a significant research component
-
Law degree with significant research or professional experience equivalent to First Class Honours

All eligible law research students are automatically considered
