2026 Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship: Overview

The Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarships are prestigious Australian Government scholarships supporting outstanding international and domestic students to pursue Higher Degrees by Research (HDR) at Charles Darwin University (CDU). The RTP Scholarship covers both living costs and tuition for exceptional research students.

2026 Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship: Eligibility

  • Open to both domestic (Australian citizens, Permanent Residents, NZ citizens) and international students
  • Must apply for or be admitted to a Higher Degree by Research (Master’s by Research or PhD) at CDU
  • Applicants must secure a CDU supervisor before applying
  • Demonstrate exceptional research potential
  • Provide a complete application, including:
  • 2 academic referee reports

  • Proof of English proficiency

  • Academic transcripts

  • Confirmation email from the supervisor

  • CV

  • Research outputs (if applicable)

2026 Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship: Benefits

Stipend (2025 rate):

  • AU$ 34,190 per year (full-time, tax-free)

  • AU$ 17,095 per year (part-time, taxable)

  • Duration: 3 years for PhD / 2 years for Master’s by Research

2026 Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship: Additional Benefits:

  • Relocation allowance (up to $2,500 for international students, $2,000 for domestic)

  • Paid sick leave & maternity leave
    ❗ Note: Income from other sources related to general living costs must not exceed 75% of the RTP stipend.
