Humboldt Research Fellowship 2025 Overview

The Humboldt Research Fellowship, offered by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, supports postdoctoral and experienced researchers from all nationalities (excluding Germany and Brazil) to conduct 6–24 months of research in Germany. Fellows can collaborate with a host researcher at any German research institution of their choice and benefit from a wide range of financial and academic support.

Program Types:

• Postdoctoral Fellowship: 6–24 months

• Experienced Researcher Fellowship: 6–18 months
  Host Country: Germany
  Rounds: March, July, and November each year

Humboldt Research Fellowship 2025 Eligibility

Postdoctoral Researchers:

• PhD completed within the last 4 years, or within 6 months of completion (proof required)

• Strong publication record in international peer-reviewed journals

Experienced Researchers:

• PhD completed within the last 12 years

• Extensive academic publications and recognition in your field

• In certain fields, applicants up to 16 years post-master’s degree may be eligible

Humboldt Research Fellowship 2025 Additional General Requirements:

• Non-German nationals

• Not previously funded by the Humboldt Foundation

• Host confirmation of research support and facilities

• 2 expert reviews

• Strong English or German language proficiency

Humboldt Research Fellowship 2025 Benefits

Postdoctoral Fellows:

• Monthly stipend of €2,700

• Up to 3 flexible stays in Germany over 3 years

Humboldt Research Fellowship 2025 Application Requirements

All applications must be submitted online and include:

• CV (max. 2 pages)

• Research proposal (max. 5 pages)

• Complete list of publications and key publication samples

• PhD certificate or proof of expected completion proof

• Language certificate (if applicable)

• Publisher acknowledgments (for non-English/German publications if needed)

• Host’s statement and confirmation of research facilities

• 2 expert reviews (uploaded separately by reviewers)

Humboldt Research Fellowship 2025 Application Process

• Result Notification: ~5 weeks after selection

• Reapplications: Allowed if significant improvements are made (18-month wait if unanimously rejected)
